After the reveal, everyone's initial thoughts turned to Far Cry , one of Ubisoft's biggest series, and there are a few reasons why. Ubisoft tends to stick to its formula when it comes to game design, and what carries over here are the FPS design and the RDA facilities you need to destroy, akin to liberating enemy outposts in the Far Cry ga

Aside from combat itself, there's a lot that could be done with the flying mechanics. Anyone who has experienced the Flight of Passage ride in Walt Disney World knows just how exhilarating it is to spiral through Pandora and experience the many different landscapes. It's fast and sometimes scary, but most of all it's absolutely stunning. Frontiers of Pandora is confirmed to be a first-person experience as well, which will make the experience even more immersive. With the right sound system, it could feel like having a ride from Disney World right in the living r

The Na'vi form intimate connections with much of the wildlife, but the relationships between warriors and their Banshees, also known as Ikran in the Na'vi language, is the most special. Banshees only select one rider and to prove their worth, the Na'vi must best the creature in battle and claim it. Once that initial bond is formed, it is unbreakable. It looks like the game will offer an opportunity to choose an Ikran, but as of now, it's unclear if the player will be able to deepen that relationship during the st

structure-of-rda1-l.jpgPlayers got a small sneak peek of what combat might look like in Avatar game PS5: Frontiers of Pandora during the release trailer, where a Na'vi drops onto a Banshee and begins fighting modern enemy aircrafts. Aerial combat should be primarily ranged and archery was showcased, but the options expand from there. Some combat was shown in the trailer, but none of it was in first-person so it's not clear yet what the gameplay will look l

Flying feels incredible, though, and goes a long way in conveying the sheer vastness of this world. Your Ikran isn’t limited to the clouds, but can soar far above them until it flirts with the precipice of space, all before flying back down in a process that not only takes minutes, but teases parts of the map I wasn’t allowed to explore yet, and couldn’t wait to uncover. It’s hard to ignore what Frontiers of Pandora is going for in its design philosophy, and how much of it fails to offer up anything new. But if it manages to flesh out the world of Avatar and its many ideas just enough, those shortcomings could be forgiven. There is a unique appeal to being dropped in a licensed game that goes beyond being a tie-in, and wants to push the universe further with its own spin on things, although it’s hard to tell how compelling its ideas can really be when the gameplay it relies on is made up of things we’ve seen so many times before, and also done better elsewhere.

Although the game can learn a lot from the movie, it should not be limited to that either. Often, movie tie-in games are overly attached to the story of the film without bringing anything new to the table, and are quickly forgotten. In recent years, these games have seemingly fallen out of fashion, with more tie-in games being sequels, prequels or franchise-related rather than straight retellings of the same story. Frontiers of Pandora seems to belong to the latter category, but it can still borrow ideas from The Way of Wa

Magnus Jansen: Right. So to me, when I watched the movies, especially the first one all those years ago, I came out of the movie theater and I had this feeling that I had been to a place, because the world was so - the crafting was so qualitative with such detail, not just in the technical expression and realization, but in all the backstory and the clans. And everything just was so well-made that it felt like a real place. And that's immersion - it's escapism, pure escapism. You're transported somewhere. And that kind of escapism I think is super powerful, and one of the big reasons I play video games. And to go to a place and be there, I think it's essential that it has a good balance of danger, but also just niceness to hang

It’s a good movie! Breaking new ground in the realm of visual effects while building upon the world James Cameron created in countless ways. It’s still pretty dry and predictable when it comes to storytelling and characters, but for the average joe it is more than enough for a film that provides rock solid entertainment value without inspiring much else. This brings us to Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, a new open world game from Ubisoft and Massive that aims to faithfully expand upon the filmic world with new characters, mechanics, and ideas. After a couple of hours with the game though, it sure seems like a souped-up version of Far Cry .

And I saw in another interview, you described the world as beautiful and dangerous, but not aggressive. Can you explain a little bit more about what you mean by that and why that's such a core part of this world's des
