Which isn’t a bad idea, and Avatar’s range of exploration and combat fits snugly into the blueprint, especially when you are on the side of one faction vying for territory against another. You’ll take over outposts by completing some pedestrian objectives, or save wildlife from patrolling grunts while exploring the world. There are also resources to gather, locals to help with everyday problems, and discoveries around which are designed much like modern Assassin’s Creed games. Although, most of these were already taken care of in the portion of the world I was allowed to explore, so it was hard to get an accurate idea of what moment-to-moment gameplay would be like aside from scripted missions. It wasn’t ideal, but Pandora remains a gorgeously massive place.

Combat in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is fast-paced, exciting, and even hilarious at times. At our disposal was a Heavy Bow with standard arrows and explosive arrows, a longbow with standard arrows and another kind of special arrow, an RDA assault rifle (with two ammo types, the second for shredding armor), and a throwing stick that allowed us to toss explosives and things that would cause status effects. The heavier weaponry came in handy when fighting the bigger mechs, while we'd switch to simpler ammo to take out individual soldiers. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be an open-world game, but it doesn't have to be like Assassin's Creed in this regard. Pandora is a more interesting environment than even the coolest Assassin's Creed setting , and the alien planet will likely be one of the main draws for many players. As such, it will be crucial for Ubisoft not to squander the exploration and storytelling opportunities that it holds. Natural, gratifying exploration like that of Breath of the Wild and a genuine sense of unpredictability like that of Elden Ring could lead to a truly interesting and one-of-a-kind experie

Another drawback when it comes to Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora 's map and exploration focus is the inherent complexity of the dense design. For example, there was a point where we had to fly our Ikran to the peak of a floating mountain. Despite being right where the marker indicated we should be, we were actually on the mountain floating beneath the right one. Sometimes, the waypoints would be imprecise forcing us to search the area for the exact spot we needed to go. Combine this with long treks, and it could easily become a point of frustration for players. However, the trade-off of this accuracy is a dense map that offers ton of exploration opportunit

The good news is that, although it is tied to an existing franchise, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora presents an opportunity for Ubisoft to start fresh with a story and not worry about years of franchise baggage. Since Frontiers of Pandora will not be following film protagonist Jake Sully, Ubisoft can aim for a self-contained, satisfying, and simple story that doesn't overextend itself the same way that Assassin's Creed does with overly complex conspiracies, time travel elements, and poorly planned science-fiction concepts. Ubisoft will probably want to leave the door open for a Frontiers of Pandora sequel, but that doesn't mean that a gratifying and conclusive narrative can't be achieved in a single g

Gear is sorted by rarity, and the majority of things can be crafted at tables or your inventory. Bases are scattered around the open world as sources of quests and bastions of safety. My heart was hoping for an exciting new standout feature that would spring forth and impress me, or showcase what Avatar aims to do differently aside from throwing us onto an alien planet with a flying alien horse and loads of sick bows and arrows instead of Montana or Yara. There’s a chance it could, and there’s more than enough verticality in its environments to craft distinct combat encounters and quests, but will it do that? Or will it stick to the safer confines of almost every other open-world game?
