It's important to optimize a Sorcerer's spell list with each level up and cut some abilities to make room for new ones – putting one level into Wizard early gives you more options to choose from, though it becomes a bit useless at max level, when Sorcerers can no longer swap spells.

Warlock: As previously mentioned, reliably depending on Hex compared to Hunter’s Mark can drastically boost the Bard’s overall damage. The Warlock, another utility-heavy Class, can add a repertoire of aggressive Spells for the Bard without having to dabble into INT-based Wizard. Depending on the Patron and the Pact, a Bard/Warlock can stay in the rear for support or become a mini-DPS.

Slippery Chain Shirt (13 AC + DEX, Medium Armour, Uncommon): This medium Armour in the Festering Cove (Act One) is one of the best first pieces of gear to acquire with the moderately armed feat. Its auto-disengage on a heal incentivizes sub-support builds for Bards, allowing them to heal from the frontlines without the risk of becoming targets.

All Wizards get access to a list of ridiculously useful out-of-combat spells, but Evocation Wizards specifically hone in on their ability to dish out massive damage in a short amount of time. All Wizards suffer from the lack of easily rechargeable spell slots, but Evocation Wizards can put these limited slots to good use – plus, Arcane Recovery can help when a Long Rest isn't possible.

Adamantine Scale Mail (16 AC + DEX, Medium Armour, Very Rare): Securing this gear at the Grymforge may give players Disadvantage on Stealth, but it's a worthwhile trade-off against never taking Crits, persisting -1 Damage Taken, and giving Reeling against melee attackers. Getting 18 AC out of a Medium Armour as a Bard in the Underdark before going to the Mountain Pass can give them quite the edge against tougher foes.

At level five, a Beast Master gains "Companion's Bond," adding their proficiency bonus to the damage rolls and AC of their Animal Companion. This also causes each animal companion to gain more HP and higher AC, along with some new abilities, as shown in the table below:

At level 11, the Hunter gains "Volley" and "Whirlwind Attack." Volley allows them to rain attacks on multiple foes with a ranged weapon, while Whirlwind Attack lets them spin and strike all foes around them in melee.

From the six options, be sure to have Insight and Investigation covered. Investigation is incredibly useful while exploring the world and locating items for quests, as it can highlight things before you even see them.

Upon creating a Fighter character in Baldur's Gate 3 , players are asked which Fighting Style they would like to follow. There are six choices: Archery, Defence, Duelling, Great Weapon Fighting, Protection, and Two-Weapon Fighting.

It's nigh-impossible to make a melee Wizard, but their spells can be attuned for many different functions in combat: Evocation Wizards focus on damage, Illusion Wizards focus on tricking and deceiving enemies, and Necromancy Wizards summon and control the dead, as one might expect.

At Level 2, a Warlock can choose two Eldritch Invocations, like Repelling Blast and Agonizing Blast, and gain two Level 1 spell slots that refresh with each short rest. With spells like Haste, as well as the Sorcerer's Metamagic options like Quickened Spell, this simple cantrip becomes one that can strike an enormous number of enemies at once.

One excellent Act 3 option would be the full Bhaalist set, especially the Bhaalist Armor and its ability to make nearby foes vulnerable to piercing, which pairs well with the piercing damage inflicted by the Legion of Bees.

However, Fighters can also gain proficiency in Athletics via the Outlander background, which replaces Intimidation with Survival. Its Inspiration mostly comes from achieving feats in the wilderness, like felling a large beast, or finding a mythical location.

The Sorcerer pairs best with the Noble or Sage Backgrounds because they will naturally trigger Inspiration moments more often. Nobles get proficiency in History and Persuasion, and tend to trigger inspiration when performing noble, heroic acts (or literally engaging with the nobility of Baldur's Gate and beyond).
