If you're multiclassing with Barbarian, we recommend Leather Armour +2 for the early-game and then either the Bhaalist Armour or Elegant Studded Leather in the late-game. If you're looking for heavy armor, you should consider grabbing the Adamantine Splint Armour during Act 1, Dwarven Splintmail from Moonrise Towers during Act 2, or the Flawed Helldusk Armour from Damon in Act 2. Another decent option is the Rippling Force Mail. You can swap in the Reaper's Embrace or Armour of Persistence later, before picking up the Helldusk Armour as your final set.
Choosing the School of Illusion at level two grants the abilities "Illusion Savant" and "Improved Minor Illusion." The former halves the cost of scribing Illusion spells into the spellbook , while the latter grants the following benefits to the " Minor Illusion " cantrip:
When it comes to multiclassing, the Tempest Cleric has some excellent choices available. The Storm Sorcerer can provide them with added mobility and synergizes well with their preferred damage types while taking advantage of the damage maximization from the Tempest Cleric's Destructive Wrath. Access to Metamagic is also tremendously useful here. Four Elements Monk is also a good choice for players who want to fight up close, providing additional elemental damage and once again taking advantage of Destructive Wrath to empower its Thunder and Lightning abilities. (It's also worth noting that the Four Elements Monk can use its Ki spells while silenced.)
During Act 3, players should grab The Reviving Hands Gloves to replace the Hellrider's Pride Gloves. They offer everything the Hellrider's Pride Gloves offer while also applying Death Ward whenever a creature is revived by the wearer. This allows the Cleric to heal someone who has been reduced to zero Hit Points and prevent them from being downed by the next attack that would drop them to zero.
The Circle of Stars Druid pairs very nicely with the Light Domain Cleric, taking advantage of Warding Flare to avoid incoming attacks and Radiance of the Dawn to fire off a Radiant Damage AOE. Mixing in two levels of Fighter for Action Surge and access to a wider range of weapons and armor is also a great option, allowing you to cast multiple spells in a single turn.
In terms of equipment, the Shadow Magic Sorcerer benefits from mixing multiple elemental damage types in the same build. Items like the Gloves of Belligerant Skies can be useful, inflicting reverberation and allowing you to knock enemies off their feet, and using the Necklace of Elemental Infusion and Potent Robe will help your elemental spells and cantrips to dish out considerably more damage. Other useful gloves to consider are the Daredevil Gloves, Gemini Gloves, Avowed rpg or Quickspell Gloves, and you can use the Cloak of the Weave later on in the game to enhance spell save
The Enchantment School grants the abilities "Enchantment Savant" and "Hypnotic Gaze" at level two. "Enchantment Savant" allows them to scribe Enchantment spells into their spellbook for half the normal price , while "Hypnotic Gaze" allows them to charm a foe within melee range and prevent it from moving or attacking (if the target fails a Wisdom saving throw.)
At level six the Wizard gains "Potent Cantrip," causing creatures targeted with cantrips to take half damage even if they succeed their saving throw against the cantrip. This can be helpful for dealing reliable damage with cantrips. Finally, level ten Evocation Wizards gain "Empowered Evocation," allowing them to add their intelligence modifier to damage rolls with any evocation spells. This extra damage can make a huge difference, and solidifies the Evocation Wizard's role as a weapon of mass destruction.
This can make them a valuable addition to caster-heavy teams. At level 10, a Wild Magic Barbarian gets the ability "Unstable Backlash." This allows them to create a new Wild Magic surge (replacing the old one) whenever they take damage or fail a saving throw while raging. This helps to increase the chaos they cause in battle.
Supplement your weapon of choice with The Jolty Vest (sold in the Zhentarim Hideout in Act 1) for a defensive option that will shock foes that attack you in melee and pick up either The Speedy Lightfeet (Cellar under the Windmill in the Blighted Village) or the Watersparkers. The Speedy Lightfeet will generate lightning charges when dashing and grant a +1 bonus to Athletics checks, while the Watersparkers will electrify water the wearer stands in and grant three lightning charges whenever they start a turn standing on an electrified surface.
The Circle of The Land is a spellcasting-focused subclass that has access to a wide variety of damage types, allowing players to work around resistances with multiple elements, or focus on a single element and push it to its limits. Players could take advantage of this by grabbing some of the element-themed magic items that can be found throughout the game, many of which can be found as early as Act 1.
