Oath of Devotion Paladins are the classical Knights in Shining Armor , defenders of the weak and the greater good. They can Channel their Oath using Divine Rebuke, placing a divine ward on an ally that deals radiant damage to anything that attacks them with a melee attack.
Players using the Spellsparkler can enhance their spell damage by picking up The Blast Pendant from a Petrified Drow near the Selunite Outpost. This allows them to convert lightning charges into bonus damage for their next spell. The Necklace of Elemental Augmentation will allow the Wizard to add their intelligence to the damage dealt by any Cantrip that deals Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, or Thunder damage, making it an excellent addition to an Evocation Wizard's kit. It can be found in the Inquisitor's Chambers at the Githyanki Creche. The Daredevil Gloves sold by the Merchant in the Creche are also helpful, providing a +1 bonus to spell attack rolls and converting ranged spell attacks into melee spell attacks when an enemy is standing next to the caster. This helps Wizards to dodge the disadvantage from casting spells while threatened.
At level six, Enchantment Wizards gain "Instinctive Charm." This allows them to charm an attacker as a reaction, causing that attacker to attack another target using their reaction if possible. This can be amazing for keeping foes from targeting the Wizard. Level ten has Enchantment Wizards gain the ability "Split Enchantment." This allows their single-target Enchantment spells to target one additional creature, which can be immensely helpful for crowd control and manipulating foes.
For example, players could focus on lightning damage, picking up the Spellsparkler staff from Waukeen's Rest (by rescuing Counsellor Florrick), the Jolty Vest from Brem in the Zhentarim Hideout, and the Watersparkers from the chest behind Minthara at the Goblin Camp. Add the Blast Pendant, worn by one of the Petrified Drow near the Selunite Outpost, and the Sparkswall Ring from the Mage Tower Basement in the Underdark. Buy the Lifebringer from Blurg in the Underdark Colony to complete the ensemble. After reaching Grymforge in Act 1, players should replace the Jolty Vest with the Protecty Sparkswall for better spell save DCs and pick up The Real Sparky Sparkswall shield, also found in Grymforge.
The Circle of Spores Druid has a tremendous amount of synergy with the Necromancy School available to Wizards, and taking six levels of Wizard will allow them to create a much greater range of undead minions to aid them in battle. This has the added benefit of granting them access to the entire Wizard spell list thanks to both classes being full casters, though a Patch 8 character customization will need to invest in intelligence to make full use of the Wizard spells. The Circle of Spores also synergizes well with the Monk, allowing players to brawl in melee and improve their AC using their Wisdom, which will already be pretty high since it's the Druid's spellcasting stat. Fighter and Ranger are both excellent multiclass choices too, offering Extra Attack at level 5 to dish out more Necrotic Damage while using Symbiotic Entity. Ranger synergizes slightly better due to also providing additional spell slots. (Rangers are half-casters so half of the Ranger Level, rounded down, is added to the effective caster level when multiclassing.)
The Circle of Spores Druid gains a "Halo of Spores" at level two. This allows them to deal necrotic damage (1d4) to a target within 6m as a reaction each turn. They also gain "Symbiotic Entity" at level two, letting them spend a Wildshape charge as an action to gain 4 temporary HP per Druid level. "Symbiotic Entity" also allows them to deal an extra 1d6 necrotic damage while those temporary hit points remain and doubles the damage dealt by "Halo of Spores." They also gain the "Bone Chill" Cantrip as an extra way to deal necrotic damage while nullifying a foe's ability to heal themselves.
At fifth level, Swarmkeeper Rangers gain the Web spell, which is always prepared. At seventh level, the Swarmkeeper gains three charges of Writhing Currents per long rest, which can be spent along with a bonus action to fly 9m/30ft and gain immunity to surface effects. They gain an extra Writhing Currents charge at ninth level, along with the Gaseous Form spell, which is always prepared.
At level 7 , Vengeance Paladins get "Relentless Avenger," which boosts their movement speed by 4.5m on their next turn after landing an opportunity attack. This helps them to keep up the pressure on foes and ensure no target escapes them. Finally, level 9 offers them "Haste" and "Protection From Energy." This pair of spells allow them to give extra actions to themselves or an ally and grant resistance to one type of elemental damage at a time.
To avoid being hindered by your own icy terrain, it's important to pick up the Hoarfrost Boots from the Inquisitor's Chamber at the Githyanki Creche too, taking the opportunity to buy Winter's Clutches from Lady Esther at the Rosymorne Monastery Trail too (These can also be acquired by completing the quest "Avenge Glut's Circle" in the Underdark, as long as players side with Glut.)
