The Death Domain grants a Cleric abilities related to death, undeath, and necromancy, not unlike the Necromancy School available to Wizards. At level one, Death Clerics receive proficiency with martial weapons and gain the "Reaper" ability , which allows them to target one extra creature with their Necromancy Cantrips. This pairs well with their Domain Cantrip "Touch of Death" and the "Toll the Dying" cantrip added by patch 8. They will also receive False Life and Ray of Sickness as Domain Spells.
However, if the Arcane lifestyle doesn't feel right for you, the Guild Artisan arguably offers the best gameplay improvements for Wizards. The Guild Artisan background grants proficiency in Insight and Persuasion, the latter of which Wizards don't usually have access to on character creation.
The max level in Baldur's Gate 3 is Level 12, and though not every class will be offered a choice to make at every level, classes with access to spells tend to have something to do at every level up. The Half-Orc race comes with a few notable racial abilities that help the best BG3 Fighter build become even more powerful and resilient. The race comes with Darkvision, and proficiency in Intimidation, but its real draw for Fighters comes from the Savage Attacks and Relentless Endurance passive features.
Strength 12 (+1): In worst-case scenarios, Strength could become a Bard’s combat Ability, especially for melee builds. However, given how Strength contributes towards Encumbrance, this should also be considered.
In terms of equipment, Trickery Clerics can get some very useful gear from the Gauntlet of Shar in Act 2. The Dark Justiciar set can be found throughout the Gauntlet and offers powerful bonuses relating to stealth and mobility. Players can acquire the Dark Justiciar Helmet in a Gilded Chest found at X: -822, Y: -753. This helmet boosts saving throws against spells, reduces the number needed to score a critical hit by 1 while the wearer is obscured, and grants a +1 to constitution saving throws.
