The Helldusk Boots from the top floor of Wyrm's Rock Fortress complement the Armour, allowing the wearer to automatically succeed a saving throw by spending their reaction. They also allow the wearer to teleport, causing a blast of fire wherever they reappear, making them useful for dealing with foes at range. Add in the Helldusk Helmet (found in the House of Hope) to gain immunity to critical hits and a +2 bonus to saving throws against spells. The Immolating Gaze Action the helmet grants will allow you to frighten foes and deal fire damage if they're burning. Before you can get your hands on the Helldusk Armor, consider using the Reaper's Embrace Armor you can loot from Ketheric at the end of Act 2.
It's a good idea to have one or two melee-focused party members, a perfect slot for the Fighter Class to fill in. The best Fighter build in BG3 is one that takes the class' melee prowess and turns it into a close-quarters devastator via the Battle Master subclass.
At fifth level, Giant Barbarians gain access to Boot of the Giants, allowing them to spend a bonus action to kick a target away. This is a contested Athletics check, just like the shove action, but you can use Boot of the Giants to push enemies that are up to twice the weight you'd be able to shove. You'll also deal your unarmed damage to the target when using Boot of the Giants, which can be enhanced by Tavern Brawler, Martial Arts from Monk, and items like the Gloves of Crushing.
Players choose their Fighter Subclass at Level 3, which can completely change how combat is approached. With abilities allowing them to draw enemy attention, empower their allies, and even sacrifice their own health to protect others, the Oath of the Crown is ideal for protecting and healing your team.
The Eldritch Knight subclass allows the fighter to learn a small selection of spells from the schools of Evocation and Abjuration , allowing them access to magic to buff themselves and damage their foes. They gain the ability to cast first-level spells once they reach Fighter Level three, with two spell slots to use when doing so.
The Thief Rogue subclass offers one simple, but powerful, benefit over the Arcane Trickster: an extra bonus action. With this extra Bonus Action, the Thief Rogue is able to move further away from enemies, disengage from Opportunity Attacks, attempt a second Hide action if a first fails, and much more.
They also learn two Wizard Cantrips and two Wizard Spells from the aforementioned Spell Schools. At level three, they also gain "Weapon Bond," which links the weapon they hold to them, preventing them from being disarmed and causing it to return when thrown.
