DON'T try to immobilize and stagger him when he is preparing to perform one of his big attacks. You won't be able to stagger him, you'll just eat the attack once he unfreezes. He is very hard to stagger in general, and I was never able to knock him out of one of his big attacks. Additionally, standing on top of your pole isn't going to help you avoid much. Don't get cute and try it. Just circle him and get to his back!

The biggest problem with Ring of Fire is that it occupies the same slot as Immobilize, which is significantly easier to use consistently and effectively against challenging foes. The boss gets interrupted by light attacks easily, so go all out and don't hesitate to deal as much damage as you can. If he starts dancing or singing, you can cast the immobilizing spell to dish out more damage.
His lunging attack is a good opportunity to dish out damage and get close to him (which is a better range to be at). If he stretches his arms out to the side, he is about to lunge forward. He will swipe at you in the air twice as he does this. Both of these swipes and his lunge are quite slow, so you should be able to easily dodge them. Once he hits the ground, he'll be vulnerable for a few seconds, though get to his left side, as he will slam his right hand down as he gets up. Make sure to lay into him when he is on the ground.
The primary obstacle in this boss fight is the blood splattered on the ground . The bubbling blood will inflict poison build-up on the Destined One if he steps on it. So you’ll have to watch where you step during the entire fight.
The big caveat to Immobilize is that some of the most challenging bosses aren't as susceptible to it, quickly breaking out of the spell during their most aggressive phases or even punishing the Destined One for daring to use it.
