DON'T try to immobilize and stagger him when he is preparing to perform one of his big attacks. You won't be able to stagger him, you'll just eat the attack once he unfreezes. He is very hard to stagger in general, and I was never able to knock him out of one of his big attacks. Additionally, standing on top of your pole isn't going to help you avoid much. Don't get cute and try it. Just circle him and get to his back!
When you are in front of the First Prince at a medium range, he will still use his Pouncing Attack and Lunging Attack, but he will also start to use his palm stomps quite a bit. The weaker slams always come as a pair. Try to time the second palm slam for a perfect dodge. If he really winds up and slams his palm down hard, he won't follow up with another. ** The speed and impact of these palm slams make them easy enough to differentiate between. However, in general, I don't think you should be spending much time at this medium range, as that is when the First Prince is at his most dangerous.**
